Accepting Our Offer

Applicants who receive a Letter of Offer to the Nova Scotia PhD Program in Educational Studies must indicate acceptance of the offer within two weeks.

Declining Our Offer

Candidates who decline the offer or who do not respond within the allotted two weeks are removed from the pool of accepted candidates and, when possible, their seat in the program is offered to an applicant in the wait pool.

Your Supervisor and Your Home University

After accepting the offer of admission, arrangements are made for the student to meet their Program Supervisor. At this stage, the student’s Supervisor is termed a “pro-tem” Supervisor. In some cases, as students progress in their studies they may select a different Supervisor to support them in their studies.

The university where the pro-tem Supervisor resides becomes the home institution of the student, from which they receive their degree.

Developing Your Program of Study

Working with their pro-tem Supervisor, incoming students develop a Program of Study and select additional members of their Supervisory Committee. Normally, the Program of Study is recorded prior to the commencement of the Summer Institute.

Getting Settled In

In the weeks following their admission to the program, with the assistance of the Doctoral Program Office, students contact their Home University (Institution of Record) to arrange access to library and technology services (including on-line course access, e-mail and log in information).

Getting Started: Orientation

Prior to the Summer Institute, students are required to attend an orientation session where they will be provided with an introduction and overview of the program. The orientation will provide new students with an opportunity to meet the Chair of IDAC (Inter-University Doctoral Administrative Committee) and the program administrative assistant. Students will be introduced to some of the library and research resources available to them as part of the program. They will have an opportunity to learn more about the experiences of other students who are at a more advanced stage in the program, and will be introduced to faculty from Acadia, the Mount and StFX.
